Speaking time

We have to assess speaking levels of students using the CEFR but how can we make engaging and challenging speaking tests that push students to really revise and then use the course information and are varied enough to give them a range of speaking challenges across their studies??? AND, what role can AI play if we don’t adopt the ‘No AI, paper tests’ approach?
