AI in class
AI is already here to stay and it seems some universities have been using it for a few years. Now it has truly exploded more and more teachers are faced with deciding if or how to use it.
This article has some good examples of what to do and not do:
Six ways universities could embrace AI – and six ways to get it wrong
But what about us? Where should we begin?
1. The typical approach to tech issues is first to experiment and see what works. This stage normally involves discuss, research and reflection too.
2. Next teachers could choose and encourage a few apps as tools in certain classes.
3. Another stage might be an increase importance of the tools as clearly part of the course. Possibly for the research side or writing side.
4. For the braver, the teacher could even change role to become a course manager or coach and instead of teaching some parts, ask students to use ChatGPT to get the information or output, as they did Wikipedia before.
The higher you go the more demand there would be for AI literacy.
Now then, what about tests? How do you test students on what they have learned if they mainly used AI?
